Have you ever wondered how a city ensures its water supply? Here at the 水とみどりの未来館 (Mizu to Midori no Miraikan), also known as the Nagasawa Water Purification Plant Public Relations Facility, we uncover those secrets. This facility, opened in June 2017, offers a unique glimpse into Kawasaki’s water management. It’s not just a museum; it’s an interactive experience. The name itself, Mizu to Midori no Miraikan, translates to “Water and Greenery Future House,” reflecting its focus on Kawasaki’s natural water cycle and its importance. Inside, you’ll discover a three-level exhibit designed to teach visitors about the water cycle. You can explore how water is purified and distributed throughout the city. The facility offers guided tours with DVD presentations and explanations by knowledgeable staff from the Kawasaki City Waterworks Bureau. These tours require reservations and last about two and a half hours, split into morning and afternoon sessions. The exhibits are designed to be educational and engaging, making learning about water both fun and informative. While the schedule may be subject to change, the standard viewing times are from 8:45 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Unfortunately, tours of the purification plant itself are currently suspended. Remember to make reservations at least three business days in advance. And please note, due to the popularity of the Mizu to Midori no Miraikan, especially with school groups, getting a reservation on your preferred date might be challenging. So, next time you take a sip of water in Kawasaki, remember the Mizu to Midori no Miraikan and the intricate journey water takes to reach your glass.
