Established in 1970 FATEC-Faculdade de Tecnologia is a cornerstone of Brazilian higher education. It pioneered the graduation of technologists. This impressive institution wasn’t built overnight. Its roots trace back to 1969. That year saw the founding of the Center of Technological Education of Sao Paulo State. Governor Abreu Sodre spearheaded this initiative. The goal was ambitious: train technologists to meet a surging demand for skilled professionals. The CEETEPS initially used the old USP Polytechnic School campus. FATEC Bom Retiro boasts the oldest courses. They’ve run continuously since 1969. That same year Sorocaba welcomed its own Technological College. In 1970 the first higher education technological courses in Construction began. These included Buildings Hydraulic Works Earthmoving and Paving. Soon after Mechanics courses followed. These covered workshops and design. The evolution continued. In 1973 the Center became the Centro Estadual de Educacao Tecnologica Paula Souza. This marked the formal establishment of the Sao Paulo State Technological College. CEETEPS became the maintainer of FATECs in Sao Paulo and Sorocaba. The year 1974 witnessed another significant addition: the higher education technological career in Data Processing. This program remains a benchmark in Information Technology. A pivotal moment arrived in 1976. The state government merged its higher education establishments into UNESP Sao Paulo State University. Since CEETEPS wasn’t an educational institution but rather the maintainer of academic units the law integrating it into UNESP designated it as a special institution. It’s linked and associated with UNESP. The impact of FATEC is far-reaching. Currently over 90000 students are enrolled across 74 units. Annual investments exceed two billion reais. The commitment to excellence is evident. Teachers must have a master’s or doctorate. Their salaries are among the best in Brazil’s public school system. The rigorous admission process ensures high standards. The FATEC vestibular has one phase. It includes multiple-choice questions and an essay. This contrasts with many other Brazilian institutions. Employability rates of graduates are exceptionally high exceeding 93%. Starting salaries average over R$2500. FATEC’s legacy is one of innovation and excellence in technological education shaping a generation of highly skilled professionals. Today FATEC continues to be a leading provider of technological expertise in Brazil. Its students are highly sought after by employers. Its contribution to the Brazilian economy is immense and continues to grow. The future of technology in Brazil is closely intertwined with the success of FATEC.
