The Tokugawa family decided to set a good example. They delivered fourteen swords to the Mejiro Police Station in December 1945. Among these was the Honjo Masamune. This sword was no ordinary weapon. It was a symbol of Japanese history and artistry.

The Honjo Masamune was crafted by Gorō Nyūdō Masamune. He was Japan’s greatest swordsmith. He lived in the 13th century. His swords were known for their exceptional quality and sharpness.

The Honjo Masamune got its name from General Honjō Shigenaga. He won it in battle in 1561. The sword split his helmet during the fight. Shigenaga claimed the sword as a war trophy.

The sword remained in the Tokugawa family for centuries. It became a prized possession. Then came the surrender after World War II. The Tokugawa family handed over the sword. It was given to the Mejiro Police Station.

After that, the Honjo Masamune vanished. Its whereabouts remain unknown to this day.

A month after the swords arrived, they were handed over. They were given to a US representative. This representative was from the Foreign Liquidations Commission of the Army Forces, Western Pacific. The name recorded was Sgt. Coldy Bimore.

However, there was no Sgt. Coldy Bimore working for AFWESPAC. This detail adds another layer to the mystery. What really happened to the sword after it left the Mejiro Police Station?
