Picture this a stunning white villa nestled in a quiet Prague neighborhood. This is Villa Winternitz. A masterpiece of architecture designed by the legendary Adolf Loos. Built in 1932 for lawyer Josef Winternitz his wife Jenny daughter Suzana and son Peter. It stands as a testament to Loos’s unique style. His famous Raumplan an innovative interior arrangement creates a sequence of stepped spaces. Imagine a double-height living room flowing into a dining room and drawing room. The Winternitz family lived here until 1941. Forced to leave because of their Jewish heritage they were victims of the Nazi persecution. Josef and his son Peter tragically perished in Auschwitz. Jenny and Suzana survived the horrors of the concentration camp. They returned to Prague but never to their beloved home. The silence surrounding their ordeal is heartbreaking. Only Suzana mentioned the villa before her death in 1991.

In 1997 the descendants reclaimed the house. They undertook a meticulous restoration project. Returning Villa Winternitz to its original 1930s glory. It is truly a marvel of preservation. Their dedication is astonishing. Since 2017 Villa Winternitz has been open to the public. It hosts exhibitions concerts and various cultural events.
