Founded in 1966 Second Mount Olive Baptist Church stands as a testament to faith. Ten believers and Reverend Peter Taylor began worshipping in temporary spaces. Their dedication built a strong foundation. Tragedy struck in 1975 with Reverend Taylor’s passing. The congregation mourned but persevered. Reverend Herbert Piro then led the church for eighteen years. He continued the legacy of love faith and hope. The church’s commitment to God’s word is evident. They sought a new shepherd guided by Jeremiah 3:15. In 1994 Reverend Arthur Ray Young became pastor. His leadership brought significant spiritual and numerical growth. New ministries thrived meeting members’ needs. Second Mount Olive became a pillar in the Fifth Ward community. It guided people towards a heavenly path. The church’s journey continued even through challenging times. It held firm to its faith in Jesus Christ. Second Mount Olive moved to 5214 Cavalcade Street from its original location at 2523 Chew Street. Reverend Young’s dedication led many to Christ. He served faithfully through hardship. He passed in 2020 leaving behind a rich legacy. The church honors his work and continues its mission. In March 2022 Reverend Bryan O Morris Sr became the fourth shepherd. He’s led the church with humility. His vision is “We’re Better Together”. Second Mount Olive Baptist Church continues to flourish. It shows the enduring power of faith and community.
