Toronto Sun

Intriguingly, the Toronto Sun building we stand before isn’t just about news. It’s a former Coca-Cola headquarters too. The Toronto Sun, a daily tabloid, has been a fixture in Toronto since 1971. It rose from the ashes of the defunct Toronto Telegram, inheriting some of its staff and assets. The Toronto Sun quickly established itself with its distinct tabloid style. The paper’s first front page, designed by Andy Donato, even led to its name. Originally called the Toronto News, Donato’s design featuring a prominent sun inspired the change. The Toronto Sun wasn’t always here. It started in a leased space at 322 King Street West, the Eclipse White Wear Company Building. By 1975, the paper needed more room. It moved into its own building at 333 King Street East. This building grew to six stories, accommodating all of the Toronto Sun’s operations. The Toronto Sun building even housed the operations for its television venture, SUN TV, later Sun News Network. The Toronto Sun has seen its share of changes. In 2010, the King Street building was sold. The Sun consolidated its operations, remaining there until 2016. After the 2015 acquisition by Postmedia, the Toronto Sun moved to its current location at 365 Bloor Street East. It shares the building with the National Post, but they maintain separate newsrooms. The Toronto Sun continues to be a prominent voice in Canadian media, evolving alongside the ever-changing news landscape.
