Fishing is allowed with hand gear. This includes rods with lines and hooks. There is a limit of ten hooks per rod. Boats are not allowed for these fishing methods.

What swims beneath S\u00e5gsj\u00f6n’s surface? The latest surveys found perch and spined loach. Also present are bleak and roach. Mussel species include pointed paintbrush mussels common pond mussels and large pond mussels.

There is a fishing ban from April 15 to June 15. This protects the fish during spawning season.

A 2012 survey revealed ten fish species. These included perch and ziege. There was also vimba bream and rudd. Gudgeon minnow and tench were present. The fish population is dominated by perch and roach. This survey assessed the lake’s ecological status. High fish density avoiding deep water suggests eutrophication. S\u00e5gsj\u00f6n resists acidification well. Stockholm University has studied S\u00e5gsj\u00f6n since 1956. This gives the lake special scientific value.

Vegetation is regularly cleared. S\u00e5gsj\u00f6n needs further nutrient inflow reduction.

In 2011 and 2012 S\u00e5gsj\u00f6b\u00e4cken was cleared. Riffles were added. This helps spawning pike trout and other fish from Saltsj\u00f6n reach S\u00e5gsj\u00f6n.

S\u00e5gsj\u00f6badet a municipal bathing spot lies on the lake’s northeast shore. Southwest of the lake lie inviting forests and meadows towards Rens\u00e4ttra. Eastward Booleden hiking trail leads towards Velamsund.

According to varve counting S\u00e5gsj\u00f6n separated from the Baltic Sea between 1500 and 1600 AD.
