Cloudy Hill

Gazing up at Cloudy Hill, did you ever imagine it as a canvas of colors? Today, we stand at the foot of Cloudy Hill, also known as Kau Lung Hang Shan. This peak, reaching 440 meters, isn’t just a geographical landmark; it’s a story etched in stone and sky. Cloudy Hill is a key point on both Wilson Trail Stage 8 and 9, bridging the areas of Tai Po and Fanling. It connects to the grand Pak Sin Leng mountains through the Wilson Trail and to Lau Shui Heung Country Trail. Imagine starting your journey from Lau Shui Heung. This route to Cloudy Hill could take you roughly three hours, offering beautiful reservoir views and a moderately challenging hike. Be warned though, the descent, especially towards Tai Po, involves many stairs. Parts of the trail are concrete, so wear comfortable shoes. From Lau Shui Heung, the trail leads you along the reservoir, the Lau Shui Heung Country Trail stretching to its edge. There’s a bridge at the trail’s end. Cross it for a stunning view of a tree-lined path by the reservoir. A campsite with a picnic area isn’t far from this spot. The climb to Kat Tsai Shan Au is steep, but the views make it worth the effort. To reach Cloudy Hill, follow the signs from Kat Tsai Shan Au. The trail widens, paved with concrete. You might catch a glimpse of Pak Sin Leng in the distance. At the junction of Lau Shui Heung Reservoir and Wilson Trail Section 9, take the widest concrete path to the right – this is Wilson Trail Section 9 and your path to Cloudy Hill’s peak. The ascent along Section 9 is quite steep, rising over 100 meters. Though tree-lined and shady, the views are somewhat limited. Atop Cloudy Hill, you’ll find a radio tower. A trail descends to Sha Lo Tung from there, but for our tour, we continue on Wilson Trail Section 9. As you continue along the trail, it becomes Wilson Trail Section 8. Take a moment here to soak in the vista of Tai Po. The trail winds up and down before a steep descent towards Yuk Sau Fung, 288 meters high. The view from Cloudy Hill remains imprinted in your memory – a tapestry of green and grey under a sky that whispers stories of trails and triumphs.
