Rodd Point itself gets its name from the Rodd family. This family significantly shaped the area for almost a century. Brent Clements Rodd bought land here in 1836. He purchased it from the Five Dock Farm estate.
Brent Clements Rodd had a large family. He had twelve children. Many local streets bear their names. Look around and you will find streets named Brent, Brisbane, Burnell, Clements, Janet, Lenore, Rodd, Trevanion and Undine. Even Barnstaple Road has a Rodd family connection. Its name comes from Barnstaple Manor. That was Rodd’s family home. The manor’s name reflected Rodd’s birthplace in Britain.
Interestingly, the Rodd Point memorial within Rodd Park has an intriguing past. It started as the Rodd family mausoleum. However, in 1903, the bodies were moved to Rookwood Cemetery.
Just off Rodd Point sits Rodd Island. This island also carries the Rodd name. In the 19th century, scientists sent by Louis Pasteur used Rodd Island. They investigated ways to eradicate rabbits. Today, Rodd Island is a recreation reserve. It forms part of the Sydney Harbour National Park.

A fire destroyed the clubhouse in 2005. Fortunately, it was rebuilt. The club offers sailing opportunities for adults and children. With little traffic on the water, Iron Cove is ideal for sailing.
Rodd Point is one of Sydney’s smallest suburbs. It is known for its parklands. Its walking tracks are also very popular. Rodd Point has a population of just over 1,200 people.
