Think of the magic created right here at Disney Studios Australia. This is where imagination meets reality. Disney Studios Australia, formerly Fox Studios Australia, has been a cornerstone of film and television production in Sydney since 1998.

This 32-acre site is only 15 minutes from Sydney’s central business district. It features eight sound stages. There are also production offices and workshops here. Around 60 independent entertainment industry businesses operate within these walls.

Before Disney Studios Australia existed, this land hosted Sydney’s Royal Easter Show. It was the largest event in Australia. It was also the sixth largest in the world. From 1881, the Royal Agricultural Society called Moore Park home for 16 years. The show moved to a new location in 1998. The former Sydney Showground then transformed into Fox Studios Australia.

Disney Studios Australia is owned by The Walt Disney Company. They operate under a 99-year lease from the New South Wales State Government. The studio officially adopted the Disney name on October 10, 2022. Before that, it was known as Fox Studios Australia.

Disney Studios Australia has housed post-production specialists. They work in film editing, sound re-recording, and sound design. The studio has been involved in many major films. “The Matrix” and “Moulin Rouge!” were filmed here. “Mission: Impossible 2” and “Superman Returns” also used these stages. Several “Star Wars” episodes were produced here too. These include Episode II “Attack of the Clones” and Episode III “Revenge of the Sith”.

Once, there was a backlot theme park here. It was called Fox Studios Backlot. It was based on Universal Studios Hollywood and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The park opened in 1999. It featured restaurants, cafes, retail spaces, and entertainment venues. The backlot closed in 2001.

Disney Studios Australia continues to be a hub for creativity. Films like “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” and “Thor: Love and Thunder” were filmed here. The legacy of filmmaking continues at Disney Studios Australia. It’s a place where stories come to life.
