Lo Ying Shek, born in 1913, began his life in Puning City, Guangdong Province. At a young age, he journeyed with his father to Thailand, immersing himself in the textile world. He eventually returned to Hong Kong with his wife, Madam Lo To Lee Kwan, in 1938.
Lo Hon Shek bears witness to Lo Ying Shek’s rise in the Hong Kong real estate market in the mid-1950s. He possessed a unique vision during a time of economic boom. In 1963, he established The Great Eagle Company, its Chinese name, “Ying Kwan,” a beautiful blend of his and his wife’s names. This company flourished, becoming a leading real estate developer and listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 1972. The Great Eagle’s headquarters remain in Hong Kong. However, its influence stretches far beyond, with a presence in Mainland China, Japan, North America, Australia, and Europe. They develop and manage high-quality office spaces, shopping malls, residential buildings, and hotels.
Lo Ying Shek, a reserved yet deeply committed man, always intended to give back to the community. He and his wife planned to establish a foundation for charitable work. His son, Dr. Lo Ka Shui, the current Chairman and Managing Director of Great Eagle Holdings Limited, honored his parents’ wishes by creating the Lo Ying Shek Chi Wai Foundation in 2010. The foundation’s focus is on positive change for children through education, instilling virtues and empowering them to pursue their dreams. From a peak named in his honor to a foundation continuing his legacy, Lo Ying Shek’s impact resonates across Hong Kong.
