Established in September 1991 Lok Sin Tong Leung Kau Kui College initially stood on Hill Road Sai Ying Pun. It was then known simply as Lok Sin Tong College. A significant event reshaped the college’s identity. Dr Leung Kau Kui a generous philanthropist donated 1.5 million Hong Kong Dollars. This substantial contribution funded the construction of a new building. In recognition of his generosity the college was renamed Lok Sin Tong Leung Kau Kui College in 1993. The college moved to its current location on Hospital Road Sai Ying Pun. This site previously housed other esteemed educational institutions. The Sir Ellis Kadoorie School Helen Liang Memorial Secondary School Yu To Sang Memorial Secondary School and the Kennedy Town Government Secondary School all occupied the premises before Lok Sin Tong Leung Kau Kui College.
The college faced challenges in its early years. A rapid increase in student enrollment led to a shortage of facilities. However through persistent rectification efforts the situation improved considerably. A major educational reform in 1997 involved nearly 30 changes to teaching and administration. This reform resulted in a remarkable three-year cumulative increase of 148% in the passing rate of students taking the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination. This success was attributed to various learning initiatives. These included classroom recognition self-learning assessment and sharing of extra-curricular reading.
Lok Sin Tong Leung Kau Kui College’s academic achievements continued to grow after 2000. Students consistently achieved excellent scores in public examinations. One student even earned a prestigious 3A result in the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination. The college’s success attracted students from other prestigious schools. These students often transferred to Lok Sin Tong Leung Kau Kui College wanting to switch from science courses to business courses. This exchange of students created a dynamic learning environment boosting the college’s reputation.
The college played a vital role in supporting immigrant students. After Hong Kong’s handover the government increased the quota for permanent residencies for children of Hong Kong parents born in China. Many families migrated to Hong Kong for family reunification. Many of their children needed secondary school placement. Lok Sin Tong Leung Kau Kui College welcomed these students providing adaptation programs to improve their English.
In recent years Lok Sin Tong Leung Kau Kui College has celebrated consistent improvement in academic results and student conduct. The college has become well-regarded within the community. To meet increasing student demand additional English-medium programs were introduced in 2015-2016. This expansion broadened opportunities for graduates.
