Standing here, you might not expect that this modern building houses so much history. This is Volksschule Donau-City. Opened in September 1999, Volksschule Donau-City celebrated its 25th anniversary last year.
The school’s design comes from Austrian architect and designer Hans Hollein. He envisioned a friendly workspace for children. Generously built, the school provides just that. Helle Klassen offer bright classrooms. Zwischenräume provide quiet work areas. Große, weite Pausenhallen und Gänge give large, wide break rooms and hallways. All these offer space for many cheerful activities.
Volksschule Donau-City is a public school in Vienna. It sits directly on the Neue Donau. It is in the heart of a modern district, the Donau-City. The Austria Center and UNO-City are nearby. Currently, 190 children attend Volksschule Donau-City. Each year offers a regular Volksschule class and a VBS class.
Our school operates as a Halbtagsschule. A KIWI-Hort is connected directly to the building. The schoolyard features a Fußballkäfig and Klettergerüst. These allow outdoor lessons and active breaks. Several covered outdoor areas allow playing and learning even in bad weather.
Volksschule Donau-City has earned the Sport- und MINT-Gütesiegel. Teachers strive to create innovative and engaging lessons. They implement new projects across MINT subjects. They also work interdisciplinary. The school is especially proud of its new Hochbeete.
Since September 2024, the Kindergarten, Volksschule, and Gymnasium have resided in a new building. It is located on the bank of the Neue Donau at Donau-City-Straße 13 in 1220 Vienna. It’s near the Vienna D.C. Tower.
Dr. Heidi Burkhart serves as chair. Andrea Bernhard is the principal of the Volksschule. You can reach the Volksschule Donau-City by U1. The Stella elementary school offers education for children from grades 1 to 4.
