A civic center combining public housing with cultural facilities stands before us. This is the Higashiyamato Civic Center, also known as Humming Hall. Completed in 1999, Humming Hall serves the community. It offers spaces for music and various events.

Humming Hall has two main halls. One is a 714-seat music hall. The other is a 300-seat multipurpose hall. The building has three floors above ground. It also has one basement floor. Its structure combines reinforced concrete and steel. The building covers an area of 3,871 square meters. The total floor area is 9,447 square meters.

Let’s step inside the Humming Hall. Imagine the sounds of music filling the air. The main hall hosts various performances. These include classical concerts and local school events. The smaller hall hosts workshops and community gatherings. It is a place for people to come together and learn.

Humming Hall actively hosts events. In 2025, several workshops were planned. There was a workshop on playing Steinway pianos. Also, there was a lecture series for beginner recipe-ists. An Italian language workshop was scheduled. It was designed to coincide with the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. A calligraphy class taught the beauty of brushstrokes.

To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Humming Hall held a special opera chorus workshop. They even created a YouTube channel to share the choir’s songs. Drum Tao and the Miyakejima Geino Doshikai performed here. The performance sold out quickly.

Humming Hall shifted its focus over time. During Japan’s bubble economy, many halls focused on famous musicians. Humming Hall was designed for citizen use. This makes it a valuable asset to Higashiyamato City. It provides space for creativity. It fosters community engagement.

As you leave Humming Hall, consider its role. It is more than just a building. It is a community hub. It is a place where people can experience art. It is a place where they can learn new skills. It contributes to the cultural richness of Higashiyamato.
