Hidden within the Bohemian countryside lies Mořina a village steeped in history. Its very name whispers tales of Slavic mythology. Derived from the goddess Morana Mořina’s origins are intertwined with ancient beliefs and rituals.

Imagine a time long before the village existed. A sacred burial ground stood here dedicated to Morana. In 1353 a church was built on that very spot. The name of the burial ground was given to the growing settlement around it. This is how Mořina received its name. This church a testament to the village’s enduring spirit was originally Gothic but later rebuilt in the Baroque style during the 18th century. It stands today as the main landmark of Mořina.

Mořina boasts a rich history stretching back to at least 1338. King Charles IV gifted the village to the Emmaus Monastery. This act shaped Mořina’s destiny linking it to the powerful monastery and influencing its development over centuries. The village remained largely unaffected by major roads or railways. This preserved its tranquil character.

Beyond the Church of Saint Stanislaus another significant sight awaits in Mořina. The Baroque Jewish cemetery a cultural monument houses 150 preserved tombstones. These silent stones hold the stories of those who once lived and worshipped in this community. They stand as a reminder of Mořina’s diverse past.

Mořina’s unique identity is further enhanced by its dramatic landscape. It sits on the border of the Hořovice Uplands and the Prague Plateau. The Vydška hill the highest point reaches an elevation of 425 meters. The southern half even lies within the Bohemian Karst Protected Landscape Area. Mořina is best known for Velká Amerika. This picturesque former limestone quarry boasts a pair of beautiful lakes at its bottom. The area is truly breathtaking.

Mořina a small village is more than just a place on a map. Its history stretches from ancient pagan beliefs through royal patronage to the modern era. Each stone each building whispers a story. Each resident contributes to the unique fabric of this historically rich and beautiful village. Mořina is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered.
