The Nichiren Shoshu tradition started on April 28, 1253. Nichiren Daishonin established the True Buddhism of Nam-Myoho-Rengue-Kyo. He faced persecution while spreading the Nam-Myoho-Rengue-Kyo. On October 12, 1279, he inscribed the Dai-Gohonzon. This is the Supreme Sanctuary of the Portal Original. It is the foundation of our faith.
After Nichiren Daishonin’s death, Nikko Shonin became the Second Reverend Soberano of the Law. He inherited the entirety of Nichiren Daishonin’s Buddhism.
In 1289, Nikko Shonin and his disciples left Minobu. They took the Dai-Gohonzon with them. Nanjo Tokimitsu donated land. In October 1290, they established Taisekiji Temple in Fuji.
For over 700 years, Nichiren Daishonin’s Buddhism has been correctly transmitted at Taisekiji. This is the Head Temple of Nichiren Shoshu.
The Hokkeko is an organization within Nichiren Shoshu. Its goal is to practice Nichiren Daishonin’s Buddhism correctly. Nichiren Daishonin himself created the term “Hokkeko”.
Members of the Hokkeko visit their affiliated temple. They deepen their faith. They listen to lectures from reverends. They share experiences with fellow members. They strive to become valuable members of society.
The Sociedade Budista Nitiren Shoshu Templo Brasileiro is part of a global network. Nichiren Shoshu has over 700 temples in Japan. It has temples and propagation centers in other countries. These include Argentina, the United States, and France.
The Templo Kaidozan Shoboji in Sāo Paulo was opened on July 10, 2005. Nikken Shonin Gueika visited Brazil for this event. He was the 67th High Priest of Nichiren Shoshu. The temple is located on Rua Luis Gois, 504. It is in the Saúde neighborhood. The phone number is (11) 5581-8215.
Nichiren Daishonin teaches the path to solve life’s sufferings. These sufferings include birth, aging, sickness, and death. True happiness comes from correct faith. It is based on the Law of Cause and Effect. It establishes a healthy life with wisdom and a balanced mind.
Nichiren Daishonin inscribed the Gohonzon. He taught that reciting Nam-Myoho-Rengue-Kyo towards the Gohonzon allows people to attain Buddhahood.

Practice has two forms. Practice for oneself involves reciting Daimoku. Practice for others involves sharing Buddhism.
Temples protect, transmit, and propagate Nichiren Daishonin’s Buddhism. They are academies of faith. They house the Three Treasures. These are the Buddha, the Law, and the Priesthood. They teach the path to enlightenment. They also conduct memorial services for ancestors.
