Hidden amidst the sprawling 25 acres of Luddenham, lies Model Park. It’s a haven for miniature marvels, a testament to the ingenuity of the Sydney Society of Model Engineers Ltd. Model Park isn’t just a park; it’s a living, breathing museum of intricate craftsmanship. Here, model cars zip around a circular track, radio-controlled boats and yachts glide across a dedicated pond, and miniature trains chug along a two-kilometer track. Overhead, the whir of radio-controlled planes fills the air, creating a symphony of mechanics in motion. The Sydney Society of Model Engineers Ltd., Australia’s largest and oldest model engineering organization, owns and operates this incredible space. While the public can’t participate in the driving, sailing, or flying, they are more than welcome to observe the members in action. But there’s one special treat for visitors: steam train rides along the two-kilometer track, available for a small fee. Beyond the mechanical wonders, Model Park offers a relaxing escape. Barbecue and picnic areas dot the grounds, inviting families and friends to enjoy a day out. Even quiet, leashed dogs are welcome to join in the fun. Model Park opens its gates to the public on the last Sunday of each month, except December. However, be sure to check ahead, as open days can be canceled due to inclement weather.
