Established in 1972 as the Faculdades da Zona Leste de Sao Paulo the Univercidade Cidade de Sao Paulo UNICID stands proudly before you. It began as a pioneering institution in the Tatuapé neighborhood. A bold step bringing higher education to this area of Sao Paulo. Professor Remo Rinaldi led the group of educators who founded this remarkable university. They envisioned a place of learning that would serve the community.
UNICID was not just another university. Its early years were marked by groundbreaking achievements. For instance it was the first to offer a physiotherapy program in 1984. This program quickly gained recognition as one of the best in Brazil. A true testament to the institution’s commitment to excellence. It became a university in 1992. This marked a significant milestone in its history.
UNICID’s commitment extends beyond its academic programs. It’s renowned for its community engagement. This includes outreach programs and volunteer initiatives. The university actively works to support the surrounding areas. Students participate in health campaigns organizing workshops and screenings. They also provide healthcare to underserved communities. A remarkable aspect of UNICID is its extensive distance learning program. This allows students from across Brazil to access its high-quality education. UNICID also boasts numerous partnerships. These extend to both national and international institutions. This broad network enhances learning opportunities for its students.
UNICID’s medical school deserves special mention. Founded in 2004 it initially used problem-based learning a highly effective active learning method. Students were represented by the Centro Academico Medicina Unicid. It’s named after the renowned professor Dr Serafim Vincenzo Cricenti. The school stands out for its practical approach and use of technology. This includes robots for medical training. Initially located in Tatuapé the medical school later moved to a modern building in Pinheiros. In 2025 the medical school relocated again. This time to the larger Villa-Lobos campus in Vila Leopoldina. The move provided more space and improved facilities. This enhanced the learning environment for its students and faculty. A state-of-the-art simulated hospital is also available for training. The medical school’s partnerships extend internationally. This includes collaborations with institutions in Miami and Madrid.
Today UNICID thrives. It offers around 60 undergraduate and postgraduate courses. It also has distance learning options. It’s a testament to the vision of its founders and the dedication of its faculty and staff. This impressive institution continues to shape the lives of countless students in Sao Paulo and beyond.
