Born from landfill a park emerged. Heiwajima Park in Ota-ku Tokyo. This wasn’t just any park. It rose from the ashes of wartime reclamation projects. A testament to peace built on the foundations of conflict.

The rectangular island became Heiwajima Peace Island. A narrow water channel was later filled in. This created the expansive Heiwa-no-Mori Peace Forest Park we see today.

Adults enjoy it too. Admission is just 100 yen for children and 360 yen for adults and high school students. It’s open Tuesday through Sunday. It’s closed on Mondays.
