Is it possible for prison to be a place of hope and transformation? Here at Seehaus e. V. that’s exactly the question they’re answering. Seehaus e. V. is a non-profit organization. It dedicates itself to helping offenders, especially young people.
Founded in 2001 Seehaus e. V. has grown into a multifaceted organization. It addresses various social needs. These include youth welfare, crime prevention, and victim support. They even offer refugee assistance.
The story of Seehaus e. V. began with a vision. It was about creating an alternative to traditional juvenile detention. This vision became a reality in 2003 with Seehaus Leonberg. It serves as a pioneering model for juvenile detention in a free form. This means a less restrictive environment. It focuses on rehabilitation. A second facility Seehaus Störmthal opened in 2011.
Here at Seehaus Leonberg young men can apply to live in a unique setting. Up to seven participants live with a staff family. Their days are highly structured. It starts at 5:45 AM and ends at 10:00 PM. They can complete their schooling. Also they can gain vocational training. The goal is to prepare them for a crime-free life.
Seehaus e. V. also emphasizes restorative justice. This approach brings offenders and victims together. It facilitates dialogue and reconciliation. Victims get a voice. Offenders take responsibility. Seehaus Leonberg encourages offenders to make amends for their actions. They participate in victim empathy training. They also perform community service.
Family is a core principle here. Staff families live alongside the young men. It provides a positive family environment. Many of the residents have never experienced this before. They learn how to support each other. A positive group culture is cultivated.
The daily routine is demanding. Yet it is designed to foster personal growth. Residents are pushed to achieve. They are supported in their education, work, and personal development. The Seehaus-Schule helps them prepare for graduation. Vocational training is offered in construction trades.
Values and virtues are central. Staff aims to instill Christian values. They emphasize diligence, discipline, and respect.

Seehaus e. V.’s commitment extends beyond their residents’ time here. They offer aftercare programs. This includes mentoring. Also it includes supported housing.
