Gazing out at that small island. That’s Shek Ngau Chau. This uninhabited island sits in Mirs Bay. It is northeast of the New Territories. Shek Ngau Chau is under the administration of Tai Po District.

Shek Ngau Chau is small. It only covers 0.92 hectares. That’s about 2.3 acres. The island is closer to mainland China than Hong Kong.

Shek Ngau Chau once had another name. It was called Gau Tau. This translates to penis head rock. The island gained a new designation in 2005. It became a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
