Can a church have two lives? Sterling Park Baptist Church in Sterling, Virginia, seems to answer that question with a resounding yes. Sterling Park Baptist Church as it stands today wasn’t always known by that name. It began its journey as Lebanon Grove Baptist Church in 1857. The church later became Guilford Baptist, reflecting the name of the surrounding community. For a significant period, Guilford Baptist served as a circuit church, sharing its ministers with Calvary Baptist Church and Mount Hope Baptist Church. This collaborative approach strengthened the bonds within the local Baptist community. The church saw periods of closure in the 1940s and 1950s. It reopened its doors in 1954 and remained a cornerstone of the community until 2013. A pivotal moment arrived in the summer of 2013. Guilford Baptist merged with Sterling Park Baptist Church, giving rise to the name we know today. This union marked a new chapter in the church’s story. The congregation settled at its current location on North York Road. Sterling Park Baptist Church is more than just a building. It’s a testament to the enduring power of faith and community. It’s a place where two distinct histories converged to create a vibrant present.
