Here stands a monument to a century of learning. It is the 100 Lat Szkoły im. Stanisława Staszica Stele. This stele commemorates 100 years of the Stanisław Staszic School.

Let’s delve into the history of this esteemed institution. The school itself has a rich past dating back to 1906. It was established thanks to the efforts of the Association of Technicians in Warsaw. Piotr Drzewiecki, the association’s president, was instrumental in its creation. Jan Zydler, a mathematics graduate, became its first director.

Initially the school found its home on Wilcza Street. Later in 1916 it moved to Polna Street 60. By 1919 the school was nationalized. It became known as the VII State Men’s Gymnasium named after Stanisław Staszic.

During the dark years of the German occupation the school continued to operate secretly. It secretly issued over 215 diplomas. Sadly both World Wars claimed the lives of teachers and students. Six teachers and 240 students perished.

After the war instruction was held at Noakowskiego Street 6. In 1951 the school relocated to its current address on Nowowiejska 37a. From 1953 the school bore the name of Klement Gottwald.

However in 1990 a significant change occurred. Students and teachers advocated for a new patron. A referendum resulted in a majority vote to honor Stanisław Staszic once again.

The 100 Lat Szkoły im. Stanisława Staszica Stele was unveiled to mark the school’s centennial. The anniversary celebrations included many events. A commemorative stele was revealed on January 13. Flowers were laid at the graves of Stanisław Staszic and former school leaders. A thanksgiving mass was held at the church on Emilii Plater Street.

The school’s jubilee also featured a scientific session. Discussions covered Staszic’s relevance. The school’s history was presented by students.

Throughout its history the Staszic School has consistently achieved high rankings. It is recognized as one of the best schools in Poland. Its students have excelled in various academic competitions.

Many notable figures have graduated from Staszic School. They include scientists journalists and artists. The school has produced leaders in many fields.
