In 1952, within the walls of the Ginásio São Joaquim, founded decades earlier in 1890, the seeds of UNISAL were sown with the establishment of the Faculdade de Pedagogia. This faculty blossomed into the Faculdades Salesianas de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras, marking the beginning of the Salesian influence on higher education in São Paulo. UNISAL’s reach extends beyond Lorena. It has woven its educational tapestry across multiple cities. In Campinas, the Liceu Salesiano Nossa Senhora Auxiliadora, founded in 1897, laid the groundwork for the Faculdades de Tecnologia. In Americana, the Salesian presence began in 1949, focusing on the education of working-class families, many of Italian descent. The Faculdade de Pedagogia de Americana, established in 1972, became part of the Instituto de Ciências Sociais de Americana, alongside Administration and Social Service programs. These individual institutions eventually converged to form the Faculdades Salesianas. A pivotal moment arrived on November 24, 1997. The Faculdades Salesianas were officially recognized as a Centro Universitário, solidifying UNISAL’s status through a federal decree. UNISAL continued to grow, adding a Law program at its Liceu Nossa Senhora Auxiliadora campus in 2002. Today, UNISAL stands as a prominent institution, its campuses spread across Americana, Lorena, Campinas, and here in São Paulo.
