Did you know that beneath this unassuming landscape lies a hidden chapter of mining history? We are standing near Štola Dvořákova. It is a former mine shaft with a story to tell.

Štola Dvořákova was established in 1953. Its purpose was to ventilate the remaining mining areas of the Ferdinand Shaft. These areas lay in the eastern part of the Vrapice district.

Imagine miners toiling deep underground. The Štola Dvořákova provided crucial ventilation for them. The mine stretched 630 meters into the earth. Its trapezoidal profile measured 1.6 by 1.9 meters. This shape helped with airflow.

Originally a large fan sat at the entrance. It forced air into the mine. In 1972, the entrance was partially bricked up. Six meters were sealed off. The remaining six meters became a cellar for the adjacent building. It is number 112.

Think about the transition. A mine entrance transformed into a storage space. The mine’s active life spanned from 1953 to 1969. It was then secured and eventually flooded in 2004. This marked the end of its mining era.

The original closure involved a slag-concrete dam at the entrance. Later a new dam was built. It was reinforced with Eko Karbo stabilizer. A control and filling hatch was installed. The mine’s empty spaces were filled with 1225 cubic meters of Eko Karbo.

Today Štola Dvořákova stands as a monument. It is a reminder of the region’s industrial past. Though hidden from plain sight, it is a significant landmark. It connects us to the miners. These miners worked tirelessly beneath our feet. The coordinates are GPS 50°10’8.027″N 14°9’53.681″E.
