Nestled at the end of Via Giulia near the Il Giulia shopping mall you’ll find an unassuming arch. This is the entrance to La Piccola Parigi “Little Paris”.
Don’t let the modest gate fool you. Step through and you’ll journey back in time. Forget Parisian cafes and men with baguettes. Piccola Pocala offers something different. Tiny houses line narrow cobbled lanes. Small gardens and apple trees dot the landscape. Cats roam freely. Old statues stand guard near stone fountains. Laundry hangs to dry. Birds sing. It’s a miniature world a forgotten corner slowly succumbing to abandonment and the allure of real estate developers.
Why “Little Paris”? Legend whispers of Napoleon’s army finding shelter here at the end of Via Zanella. No official records confirm this but it adds to the charm. Each house boasts a unique style. Despite the mystery Piccola Pocala is a must-see in Trieste. Enter through the arch on Via Giulia or use the old staircases from Via San Cilino. You’ll always find your way back to one of the three entrances. Visit during daylight though. The lighting’s poor. Piccola Pocala’s unique atmosphere its blend of history mystery and quiet charm make it a truly unforgettable experience. You won’t find another place like it in all of Trieste.
