A challenging climb awaits you at Morning Buttress. This isn’t your average Hong Kong hike. Morning Buttress is a climber’s paradise. It’s nestled in a small forested valley near Sir Cecil’s Ride. This major hiking route is above North Point. The crag offers a thrilling mix of climbing styles. You’ll find short bolt-protected boulder problems. There are also sporty clip-ups an aid line and trad cracks. The intimidating roof of Quarantine Crack is a highlight. It’s a wide off-width or a narrow chimney. It all depends on your size. Even the sport routes require trad-style moves. You’ll need hand jams foot jams chimneys and full-body mantles. Morning Buttress is easily accessible. It’s perfect for a quick half-day outing. The easiest approach is from the Braemar Hill Road Amenity Plot. Follow Po Luen Path. Cross a stream and continue for about 10 minutes. You’ll reach Sir Cecil’s Ride. Turn left. Follow the path to a set of steps. Ascend to the intersection with the trail to Morning Walkers’ Garden. Stay on the Morning Walker’s Path. Descend a short distance. Scramble right to reach the cliff face of Quarantine Roof. For the Escarpment continue down the main path. Then break off uphill to reach the crag. Morning Buttress has three distinct sectors. Quarantine Roof is the first you’ll encounter. The Escarpment is next. Continue past Quarantine Roof. Then step across a small gully. Follow the path to the wall. Finally there is the Top Tier. Follow the base of the Escarpment. Scramble up to a large ledge system below a short wall. Morning Buttress challenges even experienced climbers. The routes are graded using French Sport Grades UK Trad Grades and A or C grades for aid routes. Bolted routes have French Sport Grades. Trad routes have UK Trad Grades. Aid routes have A or C grades depending on fixed or removable protection. Remember to respect the environment. Recent visitors have noted nesting birds near Quarantine Crack. Avoid climbing there if you see any signs of nests. Morning Buttress is more than just a climb. It’s a journey. A test of skill a celebration of nature and a unique Hong Kong adventure.
