Anna Maria de Almeida Lorena Machado a woman of significant means was deeply devoted to the Infant Jesus and Saint Lucy. She carried a precious image of the Infant Jesus of Prague wherever she went. During a voyage to Paris disaster struck. Her ship sank. Anna Maria survived but lost her beloved statue.
Heartbroken she prayed for its return. A miracle occurred. While awaiting rescue she spotted her lost image floating in the water. The recovered statue became an object of intense devotion. Anna Maria vowed to build a chapel in its honor. Thus Igreja Santa Luzia was born.
