Trinity Baptist Church

Can you imagine a church rising from ashes, not once, but twice? This is the story of Trinity Baptist Church in Washington D.C. Trinity Baptist Church has a history etched in faith and resilience. It was founded on October 14, 1891, by Pastor E.T. Lewis and a small group of devoted Christians. They purchased the land where the church stands today. Their first building was completed in July 1911. Pastor Lewis guided the church for an impressive 49 years, laying the groundwork for the vibrant community you see today. He served until 1940, leaving behind a strong legacy. After Pastor Lewis, Reverend Washington Burrell took the helm. He was followed by Reverend Earl E. Hatcher, who served from 1966 to 1979. Reverend John Eatmon became pastor in 1979. Tragedy struck on March 8, 1985, when a fire destroyed the church building. Pastor Eatmon passed away on May 15, 1990. The church was then led by Reverend C.L. Smiley from 1991 to 1995. Pastor Banks became pastor on August 31, 1997, and was officially installed on December 7, 1997. He brought with him his wife, Rhonda Banks, and their three children. On July 14, 2001, the church broke ground on a new building on property acquired in 1966. Pastor Banks himself shoveled the first load of dirt. Construction began on August 6, 2001, and after 15 months, the congregation marched into their new edifice on October 26, 2002. In April 2007, Pastor Banks led the church to purchase additional property, focusing on evangelism and community outreach. Trinity Baptist Church stands as a testament to the enduring power of faith and the unwavering dedication of its members. From its humble beginnings to overcoming devastating setbacks, Trinity Baptist Church has continuously served its community. It continues to be a beacon of hope in Washington D.C.
