Imagine Ryonyo planting two Itajii trees. He planted them as provision against famine. They stand on opposite sides of the stone stairs. The male tree is on the right. The female tree is on the left. The female tree bears nuts each year.
Consider the yellow cherry blossoms. Matsudaira Tadanao donated them. He was the second lord of the Fukui domain. The originals came from Fukui Castle. The current blossoms are the third generation. Pale greenish-yellow double flowers bloom each year.
Saifukuji Temple’s garden is beautiful all year. It peaks in mid-November. The fall colors are stunning. The early morning sun illuminates the greenery. The colors create an otherworldly scene.
