Ever wondered where Würzburg’s Turkish community gathers to practice their faith? Right here at the Merkez Camii Moschee. This mosque is more than just a building. It’s a vibrant center for religious, social, and cultural activities.

Let’s step back to March 1993. The Türkisch-Islamischer Kulturverein established a mosque in Ständerbühlstraße. It was north of the main train station. Space became an issue. In April 1996, they moved to a new location in Heinestraße. The community continued to grow. Finally, in March 1999, they found a permanent home here in Aumühle. That’s when they joined DiTiB. DiTiB is the T̈urkish-Islamic Union for Religious Affairs. The Merkez Camii Moschee was rebuilt.

Inside this building, you will find two prayer rooms. One is for women, and one is for men. Each has its own dedicated space.

The Imam plays a crucial role in this community. He lives right next to the Merkez Camii Moschee. He received his theological training in Turkey. He is here in Germany for four years. Interestingly, DiTiB is the only community allowed to request official clerics from Turkey’s Religious Affairs authority. Any cleric working here must have completed university-level theological training. This ensures a high standard of religious guidance.

The Merkez Camii Moschee is part of a larger network. It is supported by the DİTİB. DİTİB coordinates the religious, social, and cultural activities of over 900 local associations. These local communities are independent. They share the same principles and goals as DİTİB. They recognize DİTİB as their umbrella organization.

You might be curious about the services offered here at the Merkez Camii Moschee. The Chutba, or sermon, is delivered in Turkish and sometimes in German. There is a minaret. However, the Adhan, or call to prayer, is not broadcast. The Friday prayer is held here. A dedicated women’s area ensures everyone can participate comfortably.

The Merkez Camii Moschee stands as a testament to the evolving religious landscape of Würzburg. It highlights the integration and active participation of the Turkish-Islamic community. This is a place of worship and a cultural anchor. It connects people to their heritage. It enriches the city’s diverse social fabric.
