Let’s take a stroll down the Kociszewskich Street. The street, known for its quiet residential charm, has a history that resonates with a story about swans, German soldiers, and a remarkable manor house. The Kociszewskich Street takes its name from the nearby village of Kociszewo, the site of a classicist manor house that stands as a testament to the region’s rich past. The manor house itself is steeped in history, having witnessed significant events throughout its existence. In 1935, the estate was acquired by Wiktor Hłasko, a representative of the Group of French Oil, Industrial, and Trade Societies – Małopolska. The manor house was built by Stefan Majewski between 1935 and 1936. It is built in the form of an elongated rectangle, with a four-column portico, a triangular gable, and a ceramic Madonna above the door. This Madonna is a telling detail, symbolizing the spirit of the era during which this manor house was built, the 1930s. The manor house is also surrounded by a park, a green oasis punctuated by ponds. The Kociszewskich Street is intertwined with the manor house’s history. In 1939, German soldiers were stationed here during the war, and the building played a part in their wartime activities. There’s a legend that one of the soldiers, seeing a flock of swans by the pond, shot at them, leaving only one swan to survive. Never again were swans seen in the park, and the legend is preserved in the memory of the place. Today, the manor house and park are home to the Training and Recreation Center of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences. The Kociszewskich Street is a quiet reminder of the past, a place where history unfolds, and where stories are whispered on the wind.
