Have you ever considered how technology can bridge the gap between those who have and those who don’t? Right here, at PCs für Alle in Vienna, that bridge is built, plank by digital plank. PCs für Alle, a non-profit organization, takes donated computers, laptops, and monitors. They breathe new life into this used technology. Then they provide it to schools, charities, and individuals who can’t afford these essential tools. PCs für Alle started with a simple idea from Peter Bernscherer back in 2018. He began collecting, repairing, and donating computers from his own home. His small apartment served as the first workshop and warehouse for PCs für Alle. The COVID-19 pandemic and the rise of homeschooling highlighted the digital divide. This surge in demand spurred the official formation of PCs für Alle as a non-profit organization in May 2020. Since then, they have expanded their operations significantly thanks to the dedicated work of over twenty volunteers. As of February 21, 2025, PCs für Alle has proudly helped over 28,055 families connect to the digital world. The impact on these families, especially the children, is immeasurable. It provides access to education, information, and connection with loved ones. PCs für Alle has also made a significant contribution to environmental protection. By repurposing used electronics, they have helped prevent over 200 tons of e-waste from ending up in landfills. The organization’s commitment to both social and environmental responsibility truly makes them a valuable asset to the Vienna community. The work at PCs für Alle continues every day. From accepting donations to refurbishing devices, and delivering them to those in need. Every step involves dedication and passion. This small organization plays a crucial role in bridging the digital divide and empowering those less fortunate. PCs für Alle embodies the spirit of community support. It proves that technology can be a powerful tool for positive change.
