Stepping onto Henrietta Szold Street, you’ll find yourself in the heart of a Tel Aviv neighborhood buzzing with life. However, in this bustling city, a gem of faith patiently awaits. The three-story building, painted a warm ochre, is Yeshivat Maale Eliyahoo. It’s more than just a yeshiva; it’s a beacon of Jewish tradition, a testament to the strength of faith, and a vibrant hub for the community. The yeshiva was founded by Rabbi Chaim Gantz back in 1998. He envisioned a place where Torah study and community service could coexist. He wanted to bridge the gap between the secular and religious communities in Tel Aviv, a city known for its modern and liberal leanings. From modest beginnings with just 25 students, Yeshivat Maale Eliyahoo has blossomed. Today, almost 200 students learn within its walls, while another 70 serve their country in the Israeli army. Even after their service, many alumni stay connected to the yeshiva and their Rabbi. The yeshiva offers a unique blend of traditional study and modern outreach. It’s not just about sitting in a classroom, it’s about actively engaging with the community. Students volunteer, reaching out to the elderly, teaching young boys for their Bar Mitzvah, and even venturing into the Ichilov medical center to offer support and prayers to the sick.
