Step into the heart of Osasco. Before you stands the Instituto Espirita Obreiros do Bem a testament to faith resilience and community. This isn’t just a building it’s a living legacy.
Founded on August 25 1940 it began as a humble spiritual home called Uniao Espirita Socorro aos Necessitados. Three men Alfredo Amalfi Pedro Alves de Oliveira and Temistocles Borges Pavão had a vision. They wanted to offer solace and support to those in need. Their first president was Alfredo Amalfi a man whose name is still whispered with respect within these walls.
In July 1945 the name changed. It became Centro Espirita Obreiros do Bem. This wasn’t merely a title change. It marked a new chapter. Jose Augusto Gregorio Seu Juca took the helm. He guided the center through significant growth and change. A new home was needed. In 1947 the center moved into its first self-owned building. It sat on Rua Brumado a location now rich with history.
The 1960s saw the beginning of the construction of a new building. Originally planned as a home for the elderly it would eventually be transformed. Expansion and renovations changed its purpose. It became the magnificent structure we see before us today the current home of the Instituto Espirita Obreiros do Bem.
Captain Rodolpho a surgeon-dentist and army captain took the reins in 1970. He oversaw the building’s completion which was finally inaugurated in 1976. That same year the center officially became the Instituto Espirita Obreiros do Bem. It marked an evolution from a local center to a respected institute. Under his guidance the Mocidade Espirita Marcos Apostolo youth group was created in 1972. A bookstore was established and systematic courses in Spiritualism were implemented.
The Instituto Espirita Obreiros do Bem continues its mission. It teaches practices and spreads the Spiritist Doctrine. It also offers aid to those in need both physically and spiritually. Their motto rings true today “Fora da Caridade nao ha Salvaca” Outside of charity there is no salvation. This enduring commitment to their community their steadfast belief and their legacy of helping others is what makes the Instituto Espirita Obreiros do Bem so special. It’s a place of hope healing and unwavering faith a beacon in Osasco.
