What exactly is a “Skrapan”? That’s a question you might ask yourself when you see the DN-skrapan rising above us. DN-skrapan translates to “The DN Skyscraper,” and it housed Sweden’s largest daily newspaper, Dagens Nyheter, for many years. This iconic tower, completed in 1964, was designed by the renowned architect Paul Hedqvist. It stands tall at 84 meters with an impressive 27 floors. Notice the striking ceramic tiles in shades of blue and white covering its facades. These, together with the unique glass-enclosed fire escape, create a captivating sculptural effect. Today, while Dagens Nyheter and its sister publication Expressen have moved to the lower part of the complex, the DN-skrapan continues to be a landmark of Stockholm. The upper floors transformed into modern office spaces, housing various companies, yet the building’s legacy as a media powerhouse endures.
