Is this where the dynamite was made? Aspudden may seem like a peaceful suburb today, but it holds a past brimming with intrigue. Aspudden was once home to Alfred Nobel’s Nitroglycerin Aktiebolaget factory. Nobel, the inventor of dynamite, moved his production here in 1865, drawn to the secluded valley by Lake Mälaren. Imagine the rumble of explosions as Nobel pushed the boundaries of science! Tragically, the factory was also the site of two devastating explosions in 1868 and 1874, claiming the lives of 26 workers. By the end of the 19th century, the factory relocated. Today, only a few remnants of this explosive era remain. Aspudden has transformed. From a hub of industry to a charming residential area, Aspudden’s story reflects the evolving landscape of Stockholm itself.
