Ledererbau

In 1996, the Ledererbau emerged, a striking brick structure designed by the architectural firm LRO. The Ledererbau stands as a testament to its unique architectural style. Its prominent clinker architecture distinguishes it in Stuttgart’s cityscape. Originally part of the EnBW headquarters, the Ledererbau boasts approximately 12,700 square meters of usable floor space. Beyond this, there are 2,100 square meters of storage and technical areas, along with around 115 parking spaces. In 2018, the “Building Section B Ledererbau” was sold to the State of Baden-Württemberg. The state’s acquisition ensured the preservation of this iconic building. The sale included the rear part of the former EnBW headquarters property along Jägerstraße. A städtebaulicher contract mandates a comprehensive renovation of the Ledererbau. This renovation, also overseen by LRO, includes a redesigned entrance. Two Stuttgart offices of the Landesbetriebe Vermögen und Bau and Bundesbau Baden-Württemberg are slated to occupy the renovated building. From autumn 2019 to the end of 2022, the Ledererbau’s ground floor temporarily housed the University of Stuttgart’s Innenstadtmensa during renovations of its usual building. While the Ledererbau underwent renovation, the adjacent “Building Section A Kammerer + Belz” on Kriegsbergstraße was demolished. This made way for a new 410-room hotel for the Motel One Group. LRO, entrusted with both the Ledererbau renovation and the hotel construction, aimed to create a consistent architectural style across the entire site. This entire property, acquired by Reiβ & Co. directly from EnBW in October 2015, sits in the heart of Stuttgart. It comprises two building complexes within walking distance of the main train station, Katharinenhospital, and the university. The Ledererbau continues to be a significant landmark within this vibrant urban center.
