It’s a living testament to faith, education, and the enduring legacy of a remarkable man. The building, completed in 2011, serves the Divinity School of Chung Chi College at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. It houses not just the 350-seat chapel, but also a prayer room, activity room, archive room, seminar room, and research staff rooms. A key feature is the lift tower. It also functions as a bell tower, housing a 24-bell carillon that chimes hourly and plays hymns. This modern structure is connected to the older Theology Building via this lift tower and link bridges, ensuring accessibility for everyone. The President Chi-tung Yung Memorial Building is named after Professor Chi-tung Yung. He was the first and longest-serving president of the Divinity School. He also served as President of Chung Chi College from 1960 to 1975. The building’s construction was entirely funded by private donations. This demonstrates a community’s commitment to honoring his contribution to higher education, the Christian university, and the church. Outside, near the chapel, a sculpture depicts Jesus washing his disciples’ feet. This serves as a constant reminder of service and humility for both teachers and students. The chapel itself, with its serene atmosphere, is open daily for individual meditation. The prayer room and activity room are available for rent by outside organizations. The President Chi-tung Yung Memorial Building stands as a beacon of faith and learning, continuing the legacy of its namesake.
