St Joachim’s Catholic Church in Lidcombe, Sydney has stood as a testament to faith and community for over a century. The church doors first opened in 1884. The current church building isn’t the first to grace this site. The original St Joachim’s was a modest wooden structure built in May 1886. It was dedicated by Bishop Ireland on Christmas Eve, 1887. The present brick church was built in 1912. Over the years, St Joachim’s Catholic Church has undergone various expansions. A basement hall was added in 1915, a parking lot annex in 1956, an elevator extension in 1985, a narthex in 1993, and a carport in 2007. A new rectory was built in 1918 and a catechetical center in 1958. Today, St Joachim’s Catholic Church continues to serve its community. It offers Mass several times a week, as well as Confession, Eucharistic Adoration, and Rosary.
