Towlers Lookout offers magnificent views of Towlers Bay and Pittwater. It marks a scenic highlight along the Bairne walking track. This track is in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. It provides an opportunity to connect with nature.

The Bairne Track to Towlers Bay Lookout is a relatively flat walk. It takes you through woodland forest, open shrub and rock platforms. The track is well-defined. It is a moderate walk suitable for most fitness levels. Some bushwalking experience is recommended.

From West Head Road, the track passes through heathlands. Look for nectar-loving yellow-faced honeyeaters here. Also look for the vibrant variegated wren. After 2.5km, you’ll reach an intersection. Head south for 1km to Towlers Bay lookout.

For a longer exploration, consider the Towlers Bay circuit. This exploratory walk visits Birnie Lookout before descending to Towlers Bay. The walk starts from West Head Road on the Towlers Bay Trail. It’s easy walking through coastal heath here.

After 1.2km, the junction with the side-track to Birnie Lookout is reached. The narrow track is a bit overgrown but fairly easy to follow.

Birnie Lookout is positioned incorrectly on some maps. However, you’ll be surprised by the sweeping views over Pittwater. It is one of the best vantage points in West Head.

As you continue down the hill towards Lovett Bay, discover a picnic table. It is nestled under a large rock overhang. The inside of the cave has been sculpted by the wind. It results in an incredible honeycomb appearance.

The track descends more steeply. The vegetation changes to a rainforest environment. Tall palms and tree ferns surround you. Turn left to head toward Lovett Bay and the Towlers Bay Track.

The firetrail starts climbing gradually up behind Towlers Bay. It passes through a eucalypt forest of tall trees. From here, it’s fairly flat and easy walking back to West Head Road.
