In 1951, a new parish emerged in the Sydney Diocese. This parish was Sacred Heart Catholic Church Warragamba. It encompassed a vast area of over 400 square kilometers. Sacred Heart Catholic Church Warragamba serves the growing community around Warragamba Dam. The dam itself, a vital water source for Sydney, played a key role in the parish’s development. The church building has a unique history. It originally served as the town hall and cinema in the old Warragamba Township. In October 1952, Father Everard, the first Parish Priest, purchased the building. He paid 450 pounds to the Sydney Water Board. The structure was then disassembled, transported in three sections, and reassembled at its current location. Sacred Heart Catholic Church Warragamba officially opened on November 23, 1952. Bishop Lyons blessed the newly relocated church. Today, Sacred Heart Catholic Church Warragamba continues to serve a diverse community. The parish includes three other churches: Holy Family Church in Luddenham, St Mary’s Church in Mulgoa, and St Francis Xavier Church in Greendale. Weekend Mass at Sacred Heart is held on Sundays at 9:30 AM. Weekday Mass is celebrated on Wednesdays at 9:00 AM. The parish’s history is deeply intertwined with the history of the region.
