A brand new library. That’s what the Baden Branch Library is. It opened in 2024. This wasn’t just any opening. This was a culmination of a decade-long dream. A dream nurtured by the dedicated Friends of the Baden Library.

The Baden Branch Library stands proudly in Brandywine. It’s a beacon of knowledge and community. For years it resided in Baden Elementary School. A small space. It served a tight-knit community. But the space was too small. Storytimes overflowed. There weren’t even public restrooms.

The community rallied. They lobbied the Board of Library Trustees. They even gained the support of Maryland Senate President Mike Miller. Their persistence paid off. The new Baden Branch Library is almost double the size of the old one.

The new building is a marvel. 4864 square feet. It has a café with vending machines. There’s plenty of seating. Ten public computers. A printer. A scanner. Even a digitizer. The design is inspired by nature. Treehouse reading nooks. Decorative plants. It’s a warm and inviting space.

The children’s department is amazing. It has a Ready 2 Read Center. Child-sized tables are perfect for homework. Adults and teens have their own distinct areas. There’s even a comfort room. It’s a space where everyone feels welcome.

The grand opening was a joyous occasion. Dr. Mark Winston the PGCMLS CEO spoke. So did Prince George’s County officials. The community celebrated. Their dream had become a reality. A testament to perseverance. A symbol of hope. The Baden Branch Library is more than just a library. It’s a community hub. A place where dreams take root and blossom. A place where everyone belongs.
