Interestingly, New Hope Academy began with a vision. A group of twelve mothers from the same church wanted a different kind of school in 1990. That school became New Hope Academy.

New Hope Academy is located in Landover Hills Maryland. This is in Prince George’s County near Washington D.C. The campus sits on what used to be a public school.

New Hope Academy emphasizes educating the whole child. This includes intellect, health, creativity, and social-emotional development. Character and heart are developed.

New Hope Academy includes New Hope International High School. It is a private school for pre-schoolers through high school students. The school is academically focused.

The Unification Church is affiliated with the school’s founders. Yet, New Hope Academy is not a church school. It does not offer religion classes. The school embraces a “community of religions” model. This allows the expression of faith rather than banning it. Most students and faculty are not members of the Unification Church. They represent a variety of religious beliefs. New Hope Academy is legally independent. It is governed by a board of directors.

The aging building once had a leaky roof. In 2003, a second mortgage paid for renovations. The $600000 project replaced the roof and upgraded the library and science lab. New Hope Academy keeps tuition costs low to serve Prince George’s County.

New Hope Academy is a Maryland-certified private school. It focuses on academic excellence and character-building. Students come from various parts of Prince George’s County. They also come from Washington D.C. and Montgomery County MD.

New Hope Academy is SEVIS approved. This allows the academy to enroll nonimmigrant students. International students typically apply to the high school. Younger siblings can attend if host families are available.

New Hope Academy emphasizes character development. It has a strong academic program. The school focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. Learning is inquiry-based and experiential. It includes environmental awareness and leadership training.

Juniors can qualify for early graduation. Seniors can take courses at local colleges. Internships may be available as well. Over 25% of students are recognized for academic excellence.

AP Calculus and AP Biology are offered yearly. Other AP courses rotate. Students can participate in humanitarian and service learning abroad. New Hope Academy has had a summer program in The Gambia Africa for almost 30 years. Science, Spanish, and Korean language programs are available.

New Hope Academy plans to expand sports and Upper School facilities. The academy boasts award-winning dance and performing arts programs.

The student population includes 40 preschool students and 30 middle school students. There are 125 elementary students and 75 high school students. The average class size is 15. The teacher-student ratio is 1:8.

Graduates attend various colleges. These include Georgetown University and the US Military Academy at West Point. New Hope Academy’s commitment to education shines. It shapes well-rounded individuals ready to contribute to the world.
