Coastlands Community Church stands as a beacon. It shines with togetherness and fellowship in God’s Kingdom. Many churches face division. This church’s story is one of agreement.
Let’s delve into its unique history. The seeds of Epikos Church were planted in 2005. Coral Cook and his wife Racquel felt a calling. They left Georgia to plant a church in San Diego. In 2006, they started a Bible study. This study grew into a church plant in 2007. Epikos ministered to the homeless. They reached out to the surrounding communities. People found salvation, baptism, and discipleship.
In 2012, Jake and Sharon McDonnell felt a similar call. They aimed to plant a church in San Diego. Jake was a teacher in Richmond, California. In 2013, they moved to San Diego. Like Epikos, they started with a Bible study. They began their church plant in City Heights. Tribe grew into a multi-ethnic church. Their high school youth group thrived. One Bible study included someone from every continent.
Pastor Coral and Pastor Jake met in 2018. They felt led to minister together. In 2018, they merged their congregations. They rebranded as Coastlands Church. The name comes from Psalm 97:1. It says, “The Lord reigns, let the coastlands be glad”. Many advised against co-pastors. They worried about infighting. Focusing on key values proved a blessing. These values included being Bible-believing and Gospel-centered.
In 2020, Grove Christian Fellowship sought new leadership. At the same time, Coastlands Church prayed about ministry in San Diego. The two churches came together in August 2021. They assumed the name Coastlands Community Church. The values found in the Bible guide them. They demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit empowers them. This leads them to be a church of unity. They spread joy and love. They aim to witness the Gospel’s power. They want to see salvation for all and changed lives. Coastlands Community Church is Bible-believing. It is Gospel-centered and Spirit-filled. It serves the community.
