Established in 2018 Tokyo Central Church stands as a testament to faith and community. It’s a vibrant hub in the heart of Tokyo. The church wasn’t built overnight. Its roots stretch back much further. In 1949 Dr Calvin B Hanson a missionary from the Evangelical Free Church in the US arrived in Japan. He saw a post-war longing for both English and Christianity. Young Japanese people admired America. They eagerly sought to learn English and Western culture from missionaries. Dr Hanson established mission work in Urawa Saitama prefecture. This led to the formation of the Evangelical Free Church of Japan. Today there are 65 such churches across Japan. Tokyo Central Church is part of this legacy. It’s supported by 24 Evangelical Free Church members from across Japan. Its creation was an answer to a need. Tokyo lacked churches in its central wards. The city’s growth particularly in areas like Chuo and Minato wards highlighted this gap. Many young people live in central Tokyo. Numerous international individuals reside there. They are often open to exploring their faith. Tokyo Central Church serves this diverse population. It also seeks to equip younger generations of ministers. The church actively works to spread its message. It even partnered with Grace City Church Tokyo. Tokyo Central Church isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a living reflection of faith’s enduring power in a modern metropolis. It stands as a bridge connecting past traditions with contemporary needs. Its story is one of perseverance vision and the unwavering spirit of community.
