Picture this A grand yellow villa stands before you. This is the Elliotska villan. It overlooks Lake Magelungen in Farsta strand southern Stockholm. Built between 1905 and 1910 it was commissioned by Bror Samuel Elliot a prominent wholesaler in the clothing industry. The Elliotska villan is one of the few remaining villas in the Södertörn villa town.

The Elliotska villan’s story isn’t just about its elegant architecture. It’s a story of transformation. In 1917 engineer Bengt Fahlstedt a subsequent owner added to the building. He extended the roof over the veranda and the north gable. The house boasted 11 rooms a kitchen a hall and a bathroom.

Its facade is rendered in a smooth yellow plaster. A striking front gable adds visual interest. The hipped roof is covered in firebrick tiles and features two tall black chimneys. Notice the gentle curves of the rooflines. This is a unique design element. A stone staircase originally leading to a stone bridge still connects the villa to Lake Magelungen’s shore. Today a nature trail passes nearby.

The Elliotska villan’s history took another turn in the 1960s. From 1962 to 1969 it was renovated and transformed into an orphanage by Stockholm’s Municipal Child Welfare Board. Today the Elliotska villan continues to serve the community as a treatment center and care home. It silently watches over Lake Magelungen. The Elliotska villan’s journey reflects Stockholm’s own dynamic history. It shows how buildings evolve and adapt. The Elliotska villan stands as a testament to the past and a beacon of care for the future.
