Did you ever hear of a church that started as a non-denominational mission? Right here, at 38/40 Shellcote Road, stood the Greenacre Baptist Church. It began its journey in January 1929, not as a Baptist church, but as the Greenacre Park Gospel Mission. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Cameron led this mission, holding meetings on both Shellcote and Waterloo Roads. The Greenacre Baptist Church officially joined the Baptist Union much later, on July 12, 1957. Services eventually consolidated at the Shellcote Road location in 1960. This building witnessed the transformation from a small mission to a full-fledged church. Sadly, Greenacre Baptist Church closed its doors on February 5, 2023. While the physical church may be gone, its legacy continues. The story of the Greenacre Baptist Church is one of community and transformation. It served the people of Greenacre for decades, a testament to the enduring power of faith. The Greenacre Baptist Church’s story reminds us that even in closure, the impact of a community gathering place remains.
