The National Commissioner of the Department of Correctional Services is Mr Makgothi Samuel Thobakgale. He assumed this role on 27 September 2021. He first joined DCS in September 2020. He was Chief Deputy Commissioner responsible for Incarceration and Corrections.
Commissioner Thobakgale has extensive public sector experience. He held senior management positions in various government departments. Before DCS he was Deputy Director-General for Small Harbours. He also managed State Coastal Properties Development and Special Projects.
Mr Thobakgale’s qualifications include a Bachelor of Commerce Degree. He also has a Bachelor of Commerce Honours degree. He holds post-graduate diplomas in fraud and corruption prevention. He is currently pursuing a Masters of Business Administration.
