“A marvel of simplified neo-Gothic architecture” whispered the guide. We stand before Duvbo kyrka. Its light yellow facade gleams. The red-painted sheet metal roof catches the sun’s rays.

Duvbo kyrka a hidden gem in Stockholm’s Sundbyberg. It’s more than just a pretty building. It’s a testament to community spirit. It reflects the dedication of those who built it. The story begins in 1893. The Society for the Advancement of Church Pastoral Care was founded. Carl Alm a local resident spearheaded the effort. He envisioned a church for the Duvbo community. Architect David Jansson translated his vision into blueprints.

Construction was completed swiftly. On the first Sunday of Advent in 1904 Duvbo kyrka opened its doors. Prince Carl and Princess Ingeborg graced the inauguration ceremony. Archbishop Johan August Ekman officiated the service.

The interior while modest belies a rich history. It displays a unique blend of neo-Gothic and Art Nouveau styles. The crucifix above the altar a masterpiece by C S Dyfverman. Originally white it was repainted in 1955 to evoke medieval triumfkrucifixen.

The church underwent renovations in 1955. Architect Einar Lundberg oversaw the project. Bishop Manfred Björkquist re-dedicated the church after the improvements. New paintings by Erik Stenholm adorned the walls. They depict biblical scenes adding to the church’s spiritual ambiance.

Three stained-glass windows by José Samson were added in 1966. They illustrate the feasts of Christmas Easter and Pentecost. The original paintings on the choir vault were covered over. Stenholm’s new works depict the Shepherds’ Vision and the Resurrection. Later he added The Good Samaritan and Christ’s Baptism.

Duvbo kyrka is more than a place of worship. It is a place that unites the community. It is a sanctuary for reflection. It stands as a symbol of faith and perseverance. It whispers stories of devotion and community. Remember Duvbo kyrka. It stands as a timeless treasure in the heart of Stockholm.
